Many of us have heard of the fire in California, USA where many lost their valuable collection in one wild fire that run across many acres of land. Thinking, all the hardware that you may lost during such circumstances, you will be able to buy back later with a newer version with the money you may get from the insurance company. Others such as photos and documents, once burnt, are gone forever.

Hence it is important to keep all your important documents and photo all in digital copies which can be backed up easily and store offsite.

There many ways to backup your valuable data :-

• By PC Backup System that back up all the data and email in your PC. This is the most straight forward and effective way to backup your data as a copy of the backup is save on an Internet Server that is offsite. The process is automatic and all newly added data will be backup real time. Hence no data will be lost as long as your PC is connected all the time.  If the amount of data to be large, it will cost you up to RM 180.00 for such services.
• The second option is to synchronize your data directory to another drive in another location such as your office. Such synchronization process can be achieved using Folder Share which is free. The only limitation is that you can only synchronize up to 10 folders and a limit of 10,000 files in each folder. Again this process is automatic and you are not likely to loose any data as long as both PCs are online all the time.
• Backup your data regularly to Tape or DVD and keep a copy offsite. This type of process is cost effective but it may not be reliable as it depend how often you will perform such backup.

I have been the beta tester of Google Payment via Western Union since last December until it was lifted out of Beta. I must agree that getting paid from Google via Western Union has the main advantage that you will get your money about a month earlier than if get it via check. That translated to a few hundred dollars a year base on current 1 Month FD interest of 3.35 %. Not to mention that you will also save the USD 24 cheque delivery fee via DHL.

My experience of fund collection at CIMB is that the queue at the Western Union can sometime be very long but since I am a premium banking customer of CIMB, I did not need to queue.

Unless during the beta period, Google set the maximum payment via Western Union at USD 2800 and for those whose month earning is more than 2800USD will have to rely on cheque payment again

The recent Google Page Rank update has “affected” quite a number of webmaster worldwide.  The page rank of sites that sell links had their PR value reduced by up to 2 in many cases. From PR 5 to 3 or from PR 4 to 2.  Many of my sites that sell Text Link ADs were similarly affected.

While traffics to the sites were not affected so far but eCPM value has decreased by some extent and I am not sure at this stage if that is related to the updated PR value. I am been think for a while on whether to remove the Text Links from my site with the hope that PR will be restored at later stage but that will mean that I need to let go those earning from TLA.

To confirm whether the removal of TLA will restore the PR value, I have request TLA  to removed TLA from two of my sites that sold only a few links and proceed to remove TLA code from those sites. From there I will request for a reconsideration by Google in a few days.

I will monitor the effect of it in future posts.
